PAT Testing Method Statement
(Based on an Office Environment)

The first job is to establish whether or not the equipment that is due to be tested is switched off. In order to do this the engineer will move the mouse and check the VDU for change. He will also listen to the hard drive for any signs of activation. The power light is also checked.

If the computer has been left on then, depending on the instructions of the customer, the computer is either powered down by the engineer or not tested.

The preparation for testing begins once the computer is off. Any items that are obstructing access to the cables are moved. The engineer will aim to move any items as little as possible but it should be noted that sometimes this is not possible, as adequate access is necessary to complete the tests. Our aim is for the customer to be unaware that a test has occurred with the exception of newly applied labels to the equipment.
